How are Your Children Treating You?

Poorly I Suspect

When you think of all the effort you put in raising your children and the kindness that you extended to them, you would rightly expect that wellness be returned to you when your children reach maturity. I did but I really don’t think the process works in reverse; at least that’s my humble observation.

I have come to the conclusion that are children are used to receiving our help but seldom work at returning that wellness to us. I am even prepared to go a little farther and proclaim that our children are more then likely to lower our wellness rather then helping us maintain the wellness we so deservedly deserve from the direction of our children.

Their Used to Receiving and Not Giving

To prove my point observe for a while the behavior of your children toward you. Now be opened minded and truthful are they giving you the kindness you go out of your way to give to them? Now be honest and I think if you do you will proclaim as I have that our children are more inclined to receive then being givers.

So here’s my point it is what it is and thus don’t expect more then they are prepared to give. I guess we created the process and can’t complain when they expect it to continue even thought we are older and more deserving of their help rather then we being the givers.

Don't Expect & You Wont Be Disappointed

So step back and don’t look to your children for the kindness you gave to them because it ant going to happen so don’t complain because they don’t. Just giggle about it and look to other parents like yourself to give you the help you so rightly deserve. My thought and I think I’m right on point.

I Learned the Art of Painting

In my early years I had a job helping this guy paint, which involved mainly painting rental apartments. It was a good job and the gentlemen took a great deal of time explaining the fine art of painting. Of course back then in the dark ages we still used oil base paint. Using this type of paint required more skill, then the latex stuff of today.

Lifted and Hurt My Stomach

Before painting an apartment we would do a lot of preparation, which included moving refrigerators out of their regular place so that we could paint behind them. Some painters only painted what you could see, my boss took pride in what he did and painted it whether you could see it or not. While moving one of these refrigerators I caused a puncture in part of my stomach liner and required surgery to patch it up. My boss contributed into the Workmen’s Compensation System and that paid for my medical bills and also replaced my lost wages while I couldn’t work.

Safety Prevention Wasn't in Yet

Back then safety issues weren’t pushed like they are in present time. Now days you see workers everywhere wearing weight safety belts. The last time I was in Lowe’s all the floor helpers seemed to be wearing belts. I think insurance companies and government regulations are requiring such wearing apparel today, if you’re involved in heavy lifting situations.

It's Worth the Trouble

Now you maybe like a lot of people and say no way I’m not going to all that trouble. Well you know what? It’s worth the trouble in more ways then you realize. Like all injuries there maybe affects that wont crop up till years later and then maybe you don’t realize what caused it and have to pay most or at least part of your expenses out of you pocket and wont be able to recoup your losses.

A Fatal Mistake Cost Him Dearly

I used to meet an acquaintance at this local Pub and we shared war stories, which as the night continued the stories became more unbelievable. He had his own independent moving business and by his own admission never bothered to use anything like weight safety belts. We parted as storytellers because I moved to a different state. Then one day while visiting my previous state I stop at the same beer place and low and behold there was my drinking buddy again. But now he was on the other side of the bar bartending to the needs of storytellers like we used to be. And that wasn’t the only thing that had changed now were both older and partly bruised from making bad decisions. I had a couple issues with my body and one was the slight bulge in my stomach area and an aching right foot once in while because I stepped in a gofer hole while golfing one time and caused a thin hairline fracture in the upper part of my foot. But my injuries paled in comparison to his. Now by story telling buddy was humped over a little like the actor in the movie called the Hunch Back of Notre Dame. He said what will you have? I responded by saying Bud Light and I don’t think our eyes even met. While sitting there curiosity got the best of me and knowing the owner I asked him what happened to Jim? The owner said Jim injured himself by moving a piano by himself one time and has slowly tilted forward every since and ended up the way he is now. I think somewhere in the corner of my brain when I entered the bar I was hoping to run into Jim and share stories but that didn’t happen and I’m sad it didn’t. Jim was a great storyteller but failed to heed the warnings of others and didn’t properly prepare himself when he lifted things.

Good Ahead Put the Item On

Be smart and do the right thing, that’s required to keep yourself healthy, wealthy and wise.

Smoking Bad Idea

I Gave Up Smoking

I started smoking when I was nineteen and it only lasted for a short period of time. Then one morning I woke up experiencing the effects of too much of the spirits and the smoke of tobacco. Because of this combined discomfort I decided that one of these two bad habits of mine had to take a hike. That’s when I decided that consumption was more enjoyable then smoking. From that moment on I have never smoked another cigarette. And believe me it surprised me more then anyone else, that it was just that easy. It was kind of like my one and only divorce when I finally realized it was over it never bothered me again. Thought I must confess that stopping to smoke was a snap compared to dealing with my first marriage. Ah but that’s a different story that I might talk about in the future, which might be tomorrow if I need it to make a point.

My Mother had Only One Bad Habit

My Mother God rest her soul had only one bad habit and that was smoking. Oh she picked on me once in awhile; but now being a parent and grandparent I realize that this behavior is what were suppose to be doing to teach our children the rights and wrongs of life as we see it. She said she started smoking to have something to do while Chiefie her favorite name for the love of her life, which fortunately was her one and only husband who enjoyed the taste of Scott & Water. Scott isn’t on my list of favorite things to consume. But out of memory for my favorite Dad I have always maintained a bottle in the closet for those moments when I want to remember and pay respect to him. He was the man along with my Mother who chose me rather then having me. The adoption became final when I was seventeen and I didn’t discover this till I called for help in getting my birth certificate so I could join up doing the Vietnam War. I’m sure that’s fodder for a future article.

Smoked Four to Five Packs daily

Now back to the point at hand. My Mother was a chain smoker and probably smoked four or five packs a day. Dad was somewhere around one pack. Dad spend his last few years struggling to get enough oxygen and Mother never showed any affects of smoking. Her last lung x-ray showed no signs of smoking use. Maybe she found the cure and didn’t know it. For every cigarette she also consumed one cup of coffee, extra sugar and cream. I only mention this for its affect and am not suggesting it’s a real solution to smoking. As far as I’m concerned the only solution is stopping or better yet never start.

Children Imitate Their Parents

Most of my immediate family have shed the burden of smoking and I’m grateful for that. I think on the whole that smoking by a parent encourages the usage by the off spring. I have no evidence to validate this but I do remember a saying of my youth. It went something like this, children imitate what they see.

What Good is Weight Loss if Your Dead

Now smokers are learning that smoking helps keep their food consumption down and that in their thinking justifies their smoking habit.

I Am a Recovering Cancer Person

I know the affects of cancer since I’m recovering from the affects of prostrate cancer and that started three years ago. Today my future looks good for a complete recovery. I thank God and all the skilled people that made it happen for me. While I was taking my treatments I got to talk to many patients like myself and saw directly the affects of what smoking can do to users. Maybe if you’re a smoke user you might want to consider visiting a location where people go for help and talk to them and see if smoking is worth the emotionally and physical pain their experiencing now.


I’m glad I stopped, how about joining me and stop coughing in the morning. You’ll be glad you did.

Swing & Feel Better

Swing and Be Better

My wife in consultation with me purchased a new covered swing for her mother at last years Christmas. Her old swing was still technically functional but showed considerable wear and tear especially where the body rested against it while enjoying the movement and slight air breeze it created.

No Shipping & Handling

We also included as part of our present the assembly of the new swing and departure of the old swing. During this process we realized that the old swing still had good functional life left in it. But it required a new seat configuration. At first we thought about buying outdoor cushions like which we removed that didn’t hold up very well.

Cheap Seat

During assembly of the old swing in our back yard I decided to use used wood decking material left over from our deck restoration project. At first I thought maybe my cheapness was showing and almost decided to return to the original concept for the swing. But during the looking phase of trying to find a proper size cushion etc. I tried the swing and greatly appreciated the comfort it created while using it.

Then my greatness was confirmed by an independent body of three individuals who just happened to be three of my grand children that to our luck and joy live in the same town we reside in. While visiting us for a family gathering the four of us ended up swinging together and to my enjoyment they all wanted to swing longer and all of us enjoyed the extra ride.

Keep It Simple

Sometimes we forget the simple things of life and one of those things is swinging and feeling the wellness that process does to us. And also don’t forget the benefit of exercise it gives us and it doesn’t require a lot of effort like going to the health club. So swing on and feel better and nothing is better then that.

The Value of Water

Were Mostly Made of Water

Water is an interesting part of the human experience and it serves us in so many ways. And most of the time we don't give it credit for what it does for us. Many people I know or know about don't seem to value water enough and consequently don’t consume enough of it. I'm sure I drink at the very least five glasses of water everyday. And here's my thinking about water. First and foremost the bodies number one ingredient is water and without it were up a creek so to speak. Every function in the human body use's water in some degree or other. The body also use's water to exit unwanted or processed stuff that the body no longer needs.

Good Body Temperature is Achieved by the Water in Our Body

I've been here at my eldest sons house for the last week and it’s been in the nineties most of the time. When your hot your body lowers its internal temperature by using water to transfer the heat inside your body to the outside and thus keeping your body at an acceptable level so you can continue to live.

Water Should be Your Number One Option

Now when you go out to eat and the waitress asked for your drink selection you might want to consider water as your number one option. Yes all drinks contain water, but here's the kicker water doesn't need much processing by the body to be use, because it's only water and water is what it wants. So give yourself and your body a fast access to what it needs especially when it's hot.

Water Helps You Look Good

If your concerned about how your body looks' water will help you stay younger looking, because if you have enough water in your body all the time your body will allow your entire body to use it and you will look good. Here's how this body stuff works. Your body hums along at maximum efficiency when it has everything it needs and it needs more water then any other one single thing. You should always consume more water then you need' because the body will remove the excess and no harm is done. But if you don't have enough water the body does the negative thing and cuts back on the water to areas that need it less. Like the exterior part of your body which controls how well you look and then your looks and etc start looking less good and in time will really take a turn for the worse and may never return to their best appearance possible for you. And this happened because you failed to consume enough water.

Hardly Ever Does Anyone Drink Too Much Water

Yes you can overdose on water but that would require you drinking large volumes of water at one time and won't give your body the time to process it. And body goes into an over load and if not handled properly at emergency room death is a likely the out come.

Remember Your Mostly Water So Drink It

I know water is less appealing then other things, but always remember its the mostly what you are and that will remind you how important it is to you. That's how I feel and I’m sticking to it.
